NBC Universal and “10:40pm”…hmmmm…
“It’s 10:40pm, where have you gone? I need you in my arms. Why would you wanna throw it all away?” Those are some of the lyrics to my song “10:40pm” which I released the music video for back in October 2008. Tonight I had the privilege to meet with some NBC folks at 30 Rockefeller Plaza and they were absolutely thrilled with my music. One guy shook my hand softly and said “I LOVE your record.” WOW, I was in heaven!
So up we go to the 7th floor and took a mini tour through the studios. Gosh, I can’t even remember the last time I was there but I know that the last time I was at NBC I told Kat (my sidekick on the Wednesday’s talk show) that I’d return to NBC as an artist and not as an executive assistant.
I went to Jimmy Fallon’s studio and it was so pretty. Much more elaborate than that of Conan O’Brien’s although I do LOVE Conan.
Then we went to Saturday Night Live’s studio and I stared at the musical guest stage for about a minute and then told the NBC rep “So, when do I get to perform there?”. He chuckled and said “You want to perform there? You’ll perform there. Maybe next time you come to NBC.” However, it didn’t mean he was gonna book me but more like the “follow your dreams” type message.
So off we went to this last minute meeting with other execs that were discussing a new website and product for the music industry. Don’t think I can discuss those things but I’ll tell you this…they spoke to me as if I were already a star and they LOVED my music video too!!! lol. If anything comes from my meeting with them, THEN I’ll post more but until then, let’s stick to NBC.
Well, it’s official. My music video “10:40pm” WILL air on NBC soon. They are gathering all their stuff for their showcase and will air it as soon as they get their first episode together. I’ll let you guys know when this happens.
If you haven’t seen that music video, here it is peps. Well, I’m tired. Sleepy. Exhausted. Worked my booty off today and gotta get up for another meeting tomorrow at noon. Have a great evening peps!!!
Love,
Melissa

And the enemy is…CARBS…arrgggg!
If you’ve been reading my posts, you’ll notice that I’ve started a new but old diet again that’s hard to stick to but I’m doing it anyways. :-[

Baked Goods
Today I ate half good, half bad. When I say bad I mean I had one muffin (low calorie) for breakfast with a Yoplait Fat Free Apple Turnover yogurt. The bad part here is the muffin AND the yogurt. Even though it’s low in calorie, it’s still high in carbs. I’m trying to eliminate as much as possible all carbs from my daily diet and possibly only allowing it one day out of the week. Now, you might think that as cheating but it’s not. It all depends on every persons needs. I LOVE bread. Who doesn’t? And so, with eating 1 slice of 45 calorie bread with egg whites and veggies every other day, i’m not removing carbs entirely. However, I should be allowed to eat a nice sandwich from like Subway (Veggie Delight anyone?) once a week.
I haven’t noticed a drastic change in weight but my body is definetly toning up even more and better than before. That’s because I’ve also decided to incorporate 20 minutes of cardio and either 20 to 40 minutes of weight training making my grand total of daily workout to up to an hour as supposed to just a full hour of cardio. Your body really needs to burn fat but getting on the elliptical machine isn’t enough. You MUST incorporate weights too.
Ok, back to those carbs. You see, if you’re like me, you already have a hard time losing weight as it is and if you think about it, you’re probably eating a lot more carbs than you think. That’s because most foods are high in carbs already. Just look at the label. The total carbs in my FAT FREE Yoplait yogurt is a grand total of 19g. You may think “eh, that’s not a lot” but it actually is. From my experience, anything more than 15g is already considered high in carbs. Most foods will say around 35g of carbs or more but I REALLY need to cut down on those. What carbs do to your body is, they break down into sugar and then stores as fat and your body can only take so much sugar being stored!!!
My point is, if you cut down on carbs, you cut down on sugar which escencially you cut down on fat. How do you cut down on fat? Your body uses stored fat as energy which was previously sugar.
Ok, so for lunch I ate really good. I had my awesome yummy salad (home made not McDonalds healthy choice wannabe) which consisted of: almonds, pecans, cranberries, baked chicken breast with italian herbs, baby romaine lettuce and my FAVORITE dressing Low-Fat Asian Sesame Ginger! Oh, and 1 bottle of water.
For dinner I had: 1 baked chicken breast (remember I had chicken for lunch? I had enough made for dinner too), almonds and Low-Fat Cero Calorie Ranch Dressing, 1 Yoplait Apple Turnover yogurt and 1 bottle of water.
I’m STUFFED!!! You may think it wouldn’t fill you up but it does. Try it out for a day but instead of having a muffin, read my blog about starting the diet which includes breakfast, snacks and other interesting info.
Til next time,
Melissa

Moving along well…pacience is a virtue
Lately I’ve been really into Thalia’s song “Ten Paciencia”. I suppose because although the song has to do with sex, the title means “Have Pacience” and I think I just need something to keep reminding me of just that. These past few weeks have been a little aggravating because I feel like there is just not enough time in this world to accomplish everything you need to do to move forward. I have so much to do for the tour and I feel like we haven’t even started. Rehearsals won’t start until May after I return from Italy but before that there’s the performance with Brendaly, the meetings with attorneys and producers, marketing team and the rest. Ugh, can’t things happen soon enough? haha!
Ok, enough blabbing. On another note, tonight I will be interviewed in Colombia over the phone but that won’t be on the air until either this Saturday or the following. I’ll let you guys know.
Ok, I want to ask you guys a favor. What would you like to see on my website especially when the tour is in full swing?
Answer the poll below and if you have any other suggestions, email them to melissaotero@divinespell.com

New diet…not really.
So I started my yet again new diet but really it’s not a new diet but an old diet that I went on the time I lost over 40 pounds in just three months. I know, sounds crazy right? Well, it’s not very easy but it’s effective and I’m tired of being the slightest chunky. I’m doing this for myself because I work out almost every day since last August and haven’t lost much. At least I’ve toned up a bit.
Anyways, when I lost over 40 pounds in 2004 I was also working out for three hours a day and had a personal trainer. It was awesome because I had all the motivation I needed as well as feeling great and being able to fit in a size 7 pants as supposed to a…nah, I’m not gonna say but it’s a lot! haha. You know them puerto rican hips aren’t small. haha!
Well, let’s see how this goes shall we? I’m honestly glad and motivated again to get back on track with this and I’m glad that I have someone who’s doing the same and we both go to the gym together so it’s cool.
To give you an example of my diet, let me write down what I ate today
Breakfast:
1 toast
2 egg whites scrambled
1 yogurt
1 bottle of water
Snack
1 cup of iced coffee with 2% milk and no sugar
Lunch
1 salad that was made out of: baby romaine lettuce, cranberries, pecans, almonds and low fat sesame ginger dressing
1 bottle of water
Dinner
1/2 pack of frozen vegetables with 1 tbsp of low fat Asian dressing, 1 tsp of salt and some sprinkled oregano, pepper and basil
2 strips of baked chicken with lemon juice and a slice of lemon, sprinkled basil, oregano, adobo, ground pepper, red peppers, green peppers and onion.
1 peach
1 bottle of water
AND THAT’S IT! lol. Well, it’s hard but yummy and once I’m used to it, I’ll be good. Wanna follow my diet, let me know and I’ll post more info about my diet here. Ok well, I’m going to bed now. Gonna hang with my family tomorrow for my nephew’s birthday. Yup yup.
Love,
Melissa

My Tour!
So it’s 5am and all I can think about is my tour!!! It’s not going to be big but it’s going to be my first. YEY!!! I’ll be traveling soon to Texas, Wisconsin, Puerto Rico and…ITALY!!! WOW! I still can’t believe it! It turns out that by talking to some of my friends and partners in crime, I can perform at so many places throughout the world! This is very exciting to me. I also can’t believe that airline tickets are SOOOOO cheap! WOW! I mean, $100 round trip to Florida, $400 to Europe?? Come on! This is insane! But it’s allowing me to do what I love most, SING!
Anyways, my “Free Spirit” tour will kick off I think when I go to Italy which is actually first. Although I will be in Texas before Italy but my performance there is not part of my tour. The one for the tour is another trip to Texas. Anywhoo, much to do little time to do it. I just wanted to say hi. Well, HI! lol. Talk to you sooooon!!!
xoxo,
Melissa
